This Double Chocolate Banana Bread tastes rich and decadent decadent but is actually make with 100% wholesome ingredients that you can feel good about enjoying on a regular basis!

This recipe is gluten-free, refined sugar-free, and dairy-free but I promise no one will ever guess!
So, a little backstory— your girl has never been a huge chocolate person. Sure, I’d eat it here and there but I always preferred vanilla, caramel, and peanut butter-y flavors… UNTIL this past year. I don’t know what it is but I have become OB-SESSED with anything and everything chocolate!
Chocolate oatmeal, chocolate bars (these are my favorite— discount code is callascleaneats), chocolate covered dates, brownies, chocolate smoothies… you name it, I want it!

A couple of weeks ago, as I was eating a couple of my paleo banana bread muffins + an apple for a snack (one of my go-to’s)— I had an idea to combine two of my favorite things and my Double Chocolate Banana Bread was born!
Safe to say, this recipe is 10000x BETTER than I was even expecting. I cannot wait to hear what you guys think!

Here’s what you’ll need:
- Bananas— the spottier the better! This will add a little bit of extra natural sweetness.
- Oats—blended in a blender or food processor until you reach a flour-like consistency. If you don’t have a blender or food processor, you can also buy oat flour at most grocery stores. It’s much more inexpensive than regular gluten-free flour!
- Eggs— I have not tried any egg subsititutes for this recipe yet. Experiment at your own risk, but if you do… let me know how it goes
- Coconut sugar— I love using coocnut sugar because it is an unrefined sweetener. Feel free to swap in regular cane sugar.
- Cocoa powder— unsweetened. You can also use cacao powder.
- Avocado oil— or coconut oil (melted + cooled).
- Milk of choice— I used coconut milk but I also love cashew milk, oat milk, and almond milk.
- Salt
- Baking soda
- Chocolate chips— hence the DOUBLE chocolate

So good I made it with flax egg and applesauce ( since I try to avoid oil) and it was so good
So glad it worked with the subs!
enjoy!!
Loved this! I used half the amount of sugar and it still came out great and sweet enough for me! Thanks for the great recipe!
Such a great idea to use half the amount of sugar to keep it extra low sugar! So glad you loved it
thank you for the comment!
Has anyone tried using brown cane sugar?
That should work!
If I don’t have any sugar on hand, do you think I could use maple syrup or honey?
Hi! I haven’t tried any subs yet so I can’t say for sure if it will work
let me know if you decide to give it a try!
I used honey and it came out amaaaaaaaaaazing! So good! You just have to remember to adjust your honey amount when using it to substitute, you can look up a conversion chart online.
Can I use all-purpose flour instead of oat flour? Or is the oat flour necessary?
Hi! I haven’t tried this recipe with AP flour— I’m sorry! Let me know how it goes if you decide to give it a try
I was craving a good banana bread and chocolate, and i had bananas to use up. This recipe did not disappoint. It hit the spot. Light, moist, not overpowering with cocoa powder. I ended up using olive oil instead of avocado oil. Would definitely make again!
I am so glad you enjoyed it!
The ingredients are in a strange order. Not the order that they are added. So I missed the cocoa powder and the sugar. Still for breakfast it makes a nice change from ordinary bread and butter.
… you forgot cocoa powder for CHOCOLATE banana bread? Your name is accurate.
This was delicious! I used coconut oil because I didn’t have avocado oil. this banana bread is so flavorful
So glad you love it! Thanks so much for the comment, made my day!
The recipe made for such a delicious snack!!! It helped curve my sweet craving but it wasn’t that sweet, it was perfect!! Thank you for this, I will be adding it to my life recipes moving forward !
So glad you enjoyed!! Definitely one of my favorite ways to curb my sweet tooth in a healthier way
xo!
Can you bake either of your banana breads in muffin tins instead of loaf?
Yes! Just cut the bake time in half so I would start with baking at 350F for 20-25 minutes, check that they’re done and a toothpick comes out clean when poking in the center. If not, add a little more time and keep an eye on them!
I love your recipes, thank you.
Thank you for your support Vicky!
