This Valentine’s Day Inspired Baked Oatmeal is the best v-day treat for your friend, your kids, that special someone, and most importantly— yourself! You deserve to be treated today and every day and this is the perfect healthier way to do it 😉
Not only is this baked oatmeal recipe super fun for Valentine’s day, it’s also perfect for any day! It’s made with a handful of simple ingredients and comes together in about 5 minutes, add 25 for bake time and you have a delicious treat within 30 minutes!
I actually debated whether or not to call this recipe “baked oatmeal” because it truly tastes like straight-up CHOCOLATE CAKE. You can hardly taste the banana and the melted chocolate chip “frosting” and sprinkles make it feel so decadent. Nonetheless, it is technically oatmeal, so the name sticks! It’s amazing what you can do with oatmeal, right!
What you need for this Valentine’s Day Inspired Baked Oatmeal:
- oats— obv! I typically use sprouted oats organic for easier digestion and to avoid glyphosate but any rolled oats will do.
- 1/2 banana— the spottier the banana, the better. This is a key sweetener in the recipe and spottier bananas are much sweeter than green/just ripe bananas.
- cocoa powder— unsweetened. You can also use cacao powder.
- sweetener— I recommend honey or maple syrup but feel free to use stevia, monk fruit, coconut sugar, regular sugar or whatever you prefer!
- 1 egg— for added protein and to create a muffin-like texture. I have not tried this recipe with any egg substitutes but let me know if you decide to give it a whirl!
- milk of choice— I used homemade cashew milk but feel free to swap in your preffered kind of milk! Oat, almond, coconut, or regular milk will all work great.
- a pinch of salt
- baking soda
- chocolate chips— I typically use the brands Enjoy Life Foods, Good and Gather organic from Target, or Nestle Tollhouse organic/allergen friendly.
- natural sprinkles— I found mine on amazon!

It was pretty good! easy to make and bake. it wasn’t very sweet but I only added half a tablespoon of sugar since I’m trying to cut sugar.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes you can always add more/less sweetener to your taste preferences 🙂
Can I substitute something for the banana?
Hi Nancy! Many people have said they have used applesauce in place of the banana and had good results. I would add a bit extra sweetener though as applesauce is not as sweet as the spotty banana. Enjoy!
