This Sweet Potato Pizza Crust is gluten free, vegan, and is made with only one ingredient. If you’re looking for a nutrient-dense, delicious, fun thin crust alternative, this is one you need to try! It’s perfectly crispy along the edges, soft and chewy in the middle, and adds a little sweetness to any type of pizza you make.
I’ve been on a pizza kick lately and have been having so much fun taking the classic flavors and coming up with new, different ways to enjoy them! Some of my recent favorites are my Cottage Cheese Pizza Bowl, High Protein Breakfast Pizza, and Cottage Cheese Pizza Crust. I love that each can be slightly customized based on what flavors you’re in the mood for or whatever ingredients you have already! I’ve been making a pizza crust at the end of the week to make a loaded pizza as a way to use up the last of my vegetables in the fridge and it’s been SO good 🙌
Whether you’re having friends over for personal pizza night, want an easy lunch or dinner for yourself, or just want to try a new recipe, this sweet potato crust is a MUST.

Why You’ll Love These
- It’s ONE ingredient – The base is just sweet potato which seems too good to be true but the texture is so delicious and it’s nutrient-dense. Sweet potatoes are a great high fiber carb, and are high in vitamins like beta-carotene, C, and potassium!
- Super customizable – You can make this savory or sweet and get creative with toppings every time. I share some of my favorite ideas below.
- A fun alternative – This isn’t a replacement for traditional pizza, but sometimes it’s fun to switch things up every once in a while and this is the perfect crust to try!
- Dietary friendly – This crust is naturally gluten free and vegan since it’s just a sweet potato. The toppings you use are up to you. Make it dairy free or use regular cheese, use meat toppings or plant based options – make this whatever you want!
What You’ll Need
- Sweet potato – I used a regular sweet potato but you can use any variety.
- Pizza toppings of choice – I kept mine simple and used organic pizza sauce, mozzarella, Applegate pepperoni, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. You can use whatever you like!
Pizza Topping Ideas
- Bbq chicken – bbq sauce, red onion, diced chicken, cheese
- Hawaiian – pizza sauce, pineapple, mozzarella, sausage
- Veggie – pesto, cherry tomatoes, peppers, red onion, greens
- Sweet and Savory – chicken, arugula, mushrooms, balsamic glaze, feta
- Dessert – greek yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, shredded coconut
How To Make
- Preheat oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Wash a medium-sized sweet potato and make a few holes with a fork. Bake it in the oven for 45 minutes or until fork tender. Let it cool for about 10-15 minutes.
- Slice the potato in half. Place another piece of parchment paper over top and use a glass or bowl to press the sweet potato down into a thin layer.
- Once you have a thin crust, remove the top sheet of parchment paper and add pizza toppings of choice! (Tip: You can make this a sweet or savory pizza, see what I used and other ideas in the section above!)
- If using cheese or other savory toppings that need melting or warmed, place the baking sheet back in the oven. Bake until warmed, cheese is fully melted, and the crust is lightly golden brown.
- Slice and enjoy!
