This Homemade Pistachio Milk is gluten free, vegan, and refined sugar free. This creamy, subtly sweet, nutty alternative to dairy milk is not only naturally beautiful (hello, soft green hue), but it’s also surprisingly easy to make at home. Once you try it, you’ll wonder why it took you so long to make the switch.
One of the easiest healthy eating hacks is making your own nut milk at home! It’s as simple as blending the nuts with water and straining – always with the option to add some extras for flavor too. Store-bought nut milks are convenient, but they’re usually filled with additives like gums, oils, preservatives, and sugars. They’re also SO expensive for a carton that doesn’t last that long. Making your own nut milk at home helps you save money but also gives you control over the ingredients you’re using and adjusting the flavor to how you like it! You can have it plain, lightly sweetened, flavored with vanilla, you get to decide 🙌
I’ve been making my own nut milk and creamers for years now, I still get the store-bought options but sometimes homemade just sounds better! After recipe testing my Pistachio Cottage Cheese Ice Cream, I had A LOT of pistachios left over and figured, why not try making my own pistachio milk? I’ve bought pistachio milk a few times and love the nutty flavor it adds to my morning lattes but again, that price per carton is steep 😅. This homemade version is not only creamy, delicious, and so easy to make but it uses only four ingredients with the option to add almond or vanilla extract for a little more flavor. I personally love adding almond extract because it adds a flavor that reminds me of a sugar cookie, not quite vanilla but a different kind of sweet!
This pistachio milk makes my morning lattes and any other recipe I include it in feel more luxury. Once you try making it yourself, you might never go back to the store-bought stuff. Plus, it’s the perfect way to elevate your regular recipes – from lattes to smoothie bowls! If you’re never tried pistachio milk before, prepare to fall in love.
Why You’ll Love This
- Gut-friendly – Keeping things simple and making this at home means no gums, no fillers, no bloating.
- Gourmet energy– Pistachio milk just feels fancy. It’s not your usual almond, oat, or coconut that everyone else is using. It’s a simple way to take things up a notch!
- Great for skin – Pistachios are rich in vitamin E which is an antioxidant that our skin loves, so even in small doses you’re nourishing yourself from the inside out.
- Dietary friendly – This is gluten free, dairy free, vegan, paleo, low sugar, and refined sugar free.
What You’ll Need
- Pistachios – I get a bag of unshelled pistachios so I don’t have to do that part and it’s even easier.
- Filtered water
- Salt
- Almond extract – This adds more sweetness to the nutty flavor and tastes amazing!
- Maple syrup – If you’re not vegan you can also use honey or another similar liquid sweetener.
How to Make
- Add all of the ingredients to the cup of a high speed blender.
- Blend until everything is smooth and frothy.
- Using a nut milk bag, strain the milk by placing the bag in a deep measuring cup or pot and pour the milk in. Gently squeeze the bag to get all of the liquid out.
- Serve however you want and enjoy! (Tip: To store the milk for up to one week, put it in a jar or bottle with a lid so it’s air-tight.)
Ways to Use Pistachio Milk
- In lattes or matcha – frothed or just poured in, it adds a lightly sweet, buttery flavor. I’ve been LOVING Everyday Dose for being caffeine sensitive but still getting energy! (code CALLADOSE for 45% off)
- Over granola or cereal
- In smoothies
- Ninja Creami creations
- Chia pudding or overnight oats – for a subtly nutty twist.
Recommended Tools
- High speed blender or food processor
- Nut milk bag – You can also use a fine mesh strainer and a spatula to help mash the liquid out.
- Stainless steel measuring cups and spoons
- Glass storage jar or bottle – I’ll reuse a large bottle I have, use a carafe, or a mason jar!
