These Double Chocolate Frozen Yogurt Bites are gluten free, high protein, and low sugar. The creamy rich inside is covered with a thick, chocolate layer making these so satisfying to bite into! They’re the perfect cross between fudge and ice cream and only take a few minutes to make.
One thing about me is I’ll always have a stash of multiple kinds of treats in my freezer. If I’m recipe testing or just prepping for the week, I’ll put leftovers in the freezer so whenever I’m craving a sweet treat I have so many delicious, healthier options! Depending on how much I’ve been in the kitchen, there can be A LOT to choose from which is both a good and bad thing 😅
I almost always have one of my frozen yogurt treats prepped and ready. So far, I’ve shared Strawberry Cheesecake and Snickers versions that both went viral and I wanted to make one that was REALLY chocolatey. If you’re like me, there’s never such thing as too much chocolate… so this double chocolate version was created! I love these others but these immediately became my latest obsession. I honestly think these are some of the BEST things I’ve ever made!
With most frozen yogurt recipes, they come out icy and not a creamy texture. But with these, they’re fudgey, creamy, and look like something you’d get at a chocolate shop (but with so much less effort)! By combining the peanut butter, Greek yogurt, and cocoa powder, along with the other simple ingredients, we’re creating a smooth, thick base that keeps these from turning icy. These ingredients are also a great mix of protein, healthy fats, and carbs to make this a balanced, blood sugar supporting treat. They’re perfect for when you want something sweet and have a sneaky boost of protein without the sugar crash!
Whether you’re prepping treats for the week ahead, want something to share when having people over, or just need a new recipe to try, these will quickly become a regular in your house 😉

Why You’ll Love These
- Perfect for prep – Make a batch of these at the beginning of the week and store in the freezer for those moments you need a chocolate fix, sweet snack, or want to finish a meal with a little treat.
- No bake, no fuss – The hardest part about this recipe is waiting for it to set in the freezer. It’s one of the easiest homemade desserts you can make, with minimal cleanup afterward.
- High protein – In this recipe, if you make six bites, each has about seven grams of protein.
- Dietary friendly – These are gluten free, high protein, low carb, low sugar, and can be made dairy free with a simple swap listed below!
What You’ll Need
For the Bites
- Greek yogurt – I prefer to use Greek yogurt that keeps the ingredient list simple, check for added sugars. If you want to make these dairy free, use a thick dairy free yogurt like Cocojune.
- Peanut butter – You can use any kind of nut/seed butter that you prefer.
- Maple syrup – This is my favorite as a natural sweetener for this recipe but any similar liquid sweetener will work (honey, agave, etc.)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder – Make sure it’s unsweetened or use cacao powder and add a little more sweetener to combat the bitterness.
- Sea salt
For the Chocolate Coating
- Chocolate chips – To keep these refined sugar free, I love Hu Gems but any chocolate chips will work!
- Coconut oil
- Peanuts for topping – This is optional but I love finely chopping and adding these on top for extra crunch. Other great toppings could be granola, cacao nibs, chopped freeze dried fruit, etc.
How To Make
- In a large mixing bowl, add all frozen yogurt bite ingredients and mix well until a thick batter forms.
- Line a baking sheet or plate with parchment paper. Use a cookie scoop or spoon to scoop the batter into balls and place on the sheet. You should be able to make six to eight large bites. (Tip: Make sure the baking sheet or plate you use can fit in the freezer before starting!)
- Place the tray in the freezer for one to two hours or until fully hardened.
- When the bites are set, make the chocolate coating by combining chocolate chips and coconut oil in a bowl. Microwave for thirty seconds, stir, and repeat until smooth.
- Dip each frozen yogurt bite into the melted chocolate, making sure to cover completely. (Tip: I like to use a fork to help move the bite around in the chocolate, lift it out, and scrape extra off the side of the bowl. This helps them get coated evenly and look neater.)
- Option to top with peanuts or anything else you’d like.
- Freeze for another fifteen minutes or until the chocolate coating is fully set. Enjoy!

These double chocolate frozen yogurt bites are the bomb!!! My family absolutely loves these. We actually kept some in the fridge, to see if we liked them frozen or just cold. The preferred method was stored in the fridge! Everyone said it reminded them of chocolate mousse. Will be making these again soon for sure. Do you ever supply nutritional info? Thanks!
That’s amazing to hear Jennifer, thanks for sharing! I’m so glad your family is just as obsessed with these 😍 I don’t have nutrition information for recipes but you can easily add this to an online nutrition calculator or app for an estimate!
