This Cottage Cheese Buffalo Chicken Dip is gluten free, high protein, low carb, and keto-friendly. This lightened-up, creamy, cheesy, classic dip pairs deliciously with chips or freshly cut vegetables making it perfect for a quick lunch or your next game day get-together.

This delicious recipe is inspired by one by Christine of Eatpayylove I saw on socials that had my mouth watering the second I came across it. I couldn’t get the craving for buffalo dip out of my head and what do we do when we have a craving? Make it ASAP! It just so happens this is a lightened up, higher protein version of a classic. And honestly, I prefer it over a lot of other buffalo chicken dips I’ve tried.

What makes this specific dip stand out is using cottage cheese as the base. At this point, it’s no secret that there’s nothing cottage cheese can’t do! The blended cottage cheese adds a thick, creamy texture and the cheese flavor is so subtle it barely comes through but you know it’s a little hint of something yummy 💁‍♀️

When I think of buffalo chicken dip, I mainly think of two things – gameday and potlucks. Both are usually filled with a wide variety of sides, dips, and slow-cooked meals, that everyone loves. If you’ve ever been to either, you know that each person who shows up most likely has a “signature dish.” For me, that looks like my High Protein Cottage Cheese Queso or Sweet Potato Chili – both so easy and ALWAYS a crowd pleaser. But I have a feeling this buffalo chicken dip is going to become the new go-to!

Why You’ll Love This

  • Single-serve – This recipe is technically a single-serving so it’s a great protein packed snack or lunch addition. If you don’t feel like sharing it with others, you don’t have to 😉
  • Ready in 30 min – From start to finish, this recipe comes together in no time so it’s easy to throw together in a hurry or when you don’t want to put a lot of effort into something nutritious that will also taste amazing!
  • Minimal ingredients – The dip itself has four main ingredients, plus some spices, and whatever you choose to dip in it.
  • Dietary friendly – This recipe is gluten free, high protein, low carb, and keto-friendly.

What You’ll Need

  • Shredded chicken – I like to use a rotisserie chicken from Whole Foods since it’s quick and already cooked. You can always use pre-shredded chicken (usually found near the deli with pre-portioned lunches) or prepare chicken breast and shred it yourself.
  • Cottage cheese – I prefer Full-Fat from Good Culture for the taste and texture but you can use any kind. If you’re not a fan of cottage cheese and want to keep this high protein, you could use Greek yogurt instead. But I promise, you don’t taste the cottage cheese!
  • Buffalo sauce – I love these healthier options from Noble Made and Primal Kitchen because they have minimal ingredients, no added sugars, and taste amazing.
  • Spices – Salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder to taste so amount used will vary.
  • Shredded cheddar cheese – Classic cheddar is my favorite with this but you can use any type you like.
  • Sides of choice – This dip can be served with anything! Chips, pretzels, pita, cucumber, carrots, celery, etc.
