This Cottage Cheese Berry Dessert is high protein, low carb, and low sugar. You only need three ingredients you probably already have at home to make this single-serve treat. It tastes like a berry soft serve and once you crack into the hard chocolate shell, you have pieces of chocolate in every bite!
Back again with another high protein single-serve dessert because once I find a recipe I love and have on repeat, I’m going to try it in MANY different flavors! If you haven’t already, make sure to check out my Reese’s Cheesecake Cup that inspired this berry version. Chocolate and peanut butter is a classic flavor combination but you know what another favorite is? Chocolate covered berries! And that’s exactly what this cup tastes like. And what’s even better is that it uses cottage cheese as the main ingredient for a sneaky protein boost that you’d never know was in there!
This is easily a single-serve dessert by using a five ounce cup of cottage cheese, blending it with whatever type of berries you love, and topping it with a chocolate shell. You can always measure out a single serving from a regular container of cottage cheese but I like to have the cups on hand an reuse them to put the blended dessert in! It doesn’t get much easier than that and the result is a thick, creamy berry soft serve. The most satisfying part though is having that chocolate shell harden and taking the first crack through the top. It’s the little things!
I’ve made hard chocolate shells for a few recipes like my Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse and Pumpkin Spice Yogurt Bowl. It reminds me of that magic shell you could buy at the store that hardens over ice cream – delicious for ice cream sundaes but not so great for our gut. Why buy something pre-made when it’s as easy as melting chocolate and letting it freeze on its own! One ingredient, that’s all you need to add that nostalgic favorite to any treat 💁♀️
Why You’ll Love This
- Simple steps –Just blend, pour, melt the chocolate, freeze, and enjoy! To make it even more simple, I pour the blended mixture back into the empty cottage cheese cup. Less dishes to use!
- Naturally sweetened – This is just sweetened with the berries blended with the cottage cheese. If you need it to be a little sweeter, you can add a little of any sweetener you choose. I would stick to liquid sweeteners to prevent a gritty texture.
- Balanced treat – To keep your blood sugar balanced and cravings satisfied, this cup has protein, healthy fats, and high fiber carbs. We have protein and healthy fats from the cottage cheese and carbs and fiber from the berries. Dark chocolate adds some healthy fats and antioxidants too!
- Dietary friendly – This is gluten free, high protein, low carb, low sugar, keto friendly, and can be kept refined sugar free.
What You’ll Need
- Cottage cheese – Good Culture full fat is what I always use because it’s high quality and gives the creamiest, thick texture without having a strong flavor.
- Berries of choice – You can use either fresh or frozen berries for this, I prefer frozen but they’ll just get blended into the cottage cheese anyways. I usually use a frozen berry mix for mine.
- Dark chocolate – I like Hu or Lily’s bars because it has simple ingredients and using dark chocolate helps keep this lower sugar. You can also use chocolate chips!

How To Make
- Add all of the ingredients except chocolate to the cup of a high speed blender or food processor and blend until smooth. (Tip: You might need to stop and scrape the sides a couple of times.)
- Pour the mixture into an 8oz container or back in the cottage cheese container and smooth out the top.
- Set the cup in the freezer for at least five minutes or until slightly firm.
- Make the chocolate shell by melting the dark chocolate squares – microwave for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat until smooth. Or you can heat it over the stovetop using a double broiler method.
- Pour the melted chocolate on top of the cottage cheese cup and smooth out the top.
- Set it back in the freezer for at least five minutes or until the chocolate has hardened. Once it’s fully set, crack the top, and enjoy!
