This Healthy Chocolate Pudding is decadent, rich, and is made with a secret superfood ingredient!

Believe it or not, the secret ingredient in this Chocolate Mousse is AVOCADO! I promise you, no one will ever be able to tell that we snuck some super healthy fats into this recipe! This recipe is also is gluten free, vegan, and low in sugar. It’s the best rich, creamy, decadent treat when you want something to satisfy a chocolate craving that’s also ready in minutes.

Avocados are amazing for heart health, glowing skin, healthy hormone function, satiation, healthy hair, and lots more! They also create the perfect, rich, whipped pudding-like consistency in this chocolate mousse.

Not to mention, this recipe is super easy to whip up! All you have to do is throw everything into a blender or food processor and wah-lah, you have healthy chocolate mousse to enjoy!

My favorite way to enjoy this Chocolate Mousse lately has been by adding a scoop of chocolate protein powder in before blending and then topping it with some berries and cacao nibs and it makes THEE perfect blood sugar-friendly breakfast or afternoon snack.

Now, what do I mean when I say “blood sugar” friendly? I’ve been super interested in how keeping balanced blood sugar positively affects us lately so I thought I’d give you the gist of it! I even went so far as to wearing a continuous glucose monitor to see how different foods affected my blood sugar.

To put it simply, we can keep our blood sugar balanced by eating healthy meals with plenty of good fats and protein. And yes, carbs too! But here’s the thing— eating carbs alone can spike our blood sugar. By eating a balanced meal with a good amount of fats and protein along with our carbs— we prevent that spike from happening.

Blood sugar is not only about what you are eating but when you are eating. It’s important to eat solid meals regulaly and snacks needed to prevent a blood sugar dip that can leave us with brain fog, shakiness/anxiety, headaches, sugar cravings, and overall feeling “crashed”.

For me personally, the biggest differences I’ve noticed since paying more attention to blood sugar is more energy, feeling more grounded/less anxious, no afternoon crash, better sleep, and less of a need to constantly graze all day long!

This Healthy Chocolate Mousse contains healthy fats from the avocados, good quality carbs from the maple syrup (and berries or granola if you use as toppings), and by adding a scoop of chocolate protein or even collagen— this becomes a perfectly balanced breakfast, snack, or evening treat!

If you’re skeptical about how good this pudding could really taste, don’t worry, I’ve been there. If you’re thinking this will taste like avocado, it won’t! The cocoa powder, maple syrup, and cashew milk mask the flavor – so all you taste is a delicious, chocolate treat! The avocado is what makes this pudding so thick and creamy, plus it adds a lot of healthy fats. Not only is this a yummy treat, it’s a great way to add in more vegetables, fiber, and healthy fat into your day or for kids!

Enjoy this pudding as is, or sometimes I like to add toppings to my serving! Lately, I’ve been topping mine with melted dark chocolate and crushed peanuts for some added chocolate peanut butter flavor. You could also top with whole chocolate chips, cacao nibs, crushed nuts/seeds, coconut flakes, berries, etc. If you add any toppings to yours, let me know so I have some ideas to try!

Why You’ll Love This:

  • No waiting – This doesn’t have to be chilled or frozen so once it’s fully blended, you can enjoy immediately!
  • Five ingredients – You only need five ingredients for this to come together, it couldn’t be easier. Thanks to the avocado and cashew milk, this pudding is loaded with healthy fats to keep your cravings (and blood sugar) satisfied!
  • Great for meal prep – Make this pudding and store in small glass containers like these to keep in your fridge for quick sweet treats for the week.
  • Dietary friendly – This pudding is naturally gluten free, vegan, paleo, refined sugar free, and low in sugar since the only sweetener is maple syrup!

What you need to make this Healthy Chocolate Pudding:

  • avocados— I promise you can’t taste any avocado in this recipe. They just help to create a rich, creamy consistency!
  • unsweetened cocoa or cacao powder— for the chocolate-y flavor! This also adds antioxidants. Make sure it’s unsweetened — this is a great brand!
  • maple syrup— as an unrefined sweetener. You can also use honey or coconut sguar if you prefer
  • milk of choice— I use unsweetened almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, or oat milk. Any milk of choice will work here!
  • pinch of sea salt
  • optional toppings — I love adding cacao nibs for an added superfood kick, some melted dark chocolate (this is my fave brand!), crushed nuts, sprinkles, you can really customize this dessert however you’d like! Fresh fruit is always great too — bananas, berries, a drizzle of honey — yum!
  • a good blenderTHIS is the one that I use daily. The top has a built in twist tamper so you can make things like this, dips, thick smoothies, banana ice cream without having to stop and scrape the sides. I’ve had it for years and I LOVE it.

How to make this Healthy Avocado Chocolate Mousse:

Start by slicing your avocados in half, removing the pit, and scooping out all of the avocado — leaving the peel behind.

Add your avocado, maple syrup or sweetener of choice, cocoa powder, milk and sea salt to a blender. Blend until completely smooth. You may have to stop and scrape the sides of your blender a couple of times to make sure everything is blending! Taste to make sure you don’t want to add any additional sweetener.

Add your avocado chocolate mousse to serving dishes of choice. Here’s where it gets fun! Add whatever toppings you’d like!

Some topping ideas:

  • cacao nibs — these are full of magnesium, antioxidants, and other health benefits!
  • melted dark chocolate — this brand is THEE best for melting! You don’t have to add any additional coconut oil or butter and it comes out silky smooth and perfect for dipping, drizzling, etc!
  • sliced nuts (peanuts are my favorite because I love the chocolate peanut butter combo)
  • nut butter
  • bananas
  • berries
  • granola — THIS is my fave!
  • greek yogurt (for a protein boost!) or coconut yogurt
  • whipped cream or dairy-free whipped cream

The possibilities are truly ENDLESS 😉
