February Recap

Hi guys! Welcome to my monthly recap. Here’s some of my highlights from the month ❤️

Lots of travel— check out my healthy travel guide here. So many travel snack ideas and simple habits that make all the difference!

I asked for a hot water on the plane and mixed these for the yummiest healthy hot cocoa!

Paris was an absolute dream! So grateful I was able to visit such an amazing place with an amazing guy ☺️ PS. I listed all of our favorite activities/eats from Paris in this post!

So. Many. Macaroons. consumed in our five day trip.

Was able to catch one of Matt’s games! He’s been killing it 😆

MOST POPULAR BLOG POSTS THIS MONTH:

1. January recap (yay, so happy to see that you guys were interested in this!)
2. Creamy Chia Oats (IYKYK)
3. Paleo Banana Bread Mug Muffin (with a vegan option!)

FOOD AND DRANKS I’VE BEEN DIGGING:

  • Breakfast rotation while I was in Germany included Creamy Chia Oats, Sweet Potato Toast (tutorial here), and my Paleo English Mug Muffin (recipe here!)
  • Tuna salad. When I’m at home I use avocado oil mayo but I couldn’t find anything similar in germany so I just mixed 1 can tuna + 1/2 large avo + small spoonful mustard and it was delish! I had it over greens, on sweet potato toast, or on rice cakes! Easiest healthy meal ever. Bonus: top it with some vegan cheese and throw it in the microwave for 30 sec 👌🏼
  • Nedi martini. I’ve been following @healthywithnedi forevs and I finally tried her famous martini! Just order a martini with vodka, muddled cucumber, muddled mint, and a squeeze of lime juice. This was my go-to drink all month!
  • Pan seared chicken. I forgot how much more freakin’ flavorful chicken is when seared on each side for a couple minutes (in lots of avocado oil) before throwing it in the oven. Probably will never go back to plain baked chicken.

WHAT’S UP WORKOUT-WISE??

I mentioned this in my Instagram stories but during the 4.5 weeks I was traveling, my bod wasn’t feeling my usual high-intensity workouts or any heavy weight lifting. Instead of pushing myself to do something I didn’t want to do mentally/physically, I listened. I stuck with walks in the park (nature is so meditative for me), lots of stretching (I’ve seen a HUGE improvement in my flexibility), and some light weight lifting. Nonetheless, I now feel rested + rejuvenated and ready to get back at it this month!

BALANCE

To be completely honest, there were 1 or 2 times during this trip where my old “perfectionist” mindset started to creep back in. I’m not used to eating out every day and not knowing exactly what’s in my food. There were nights where Matt and I planned a dinner date and I found myself having a little bit of anxiety leading up to it around the food not being “healthy” enough + worrying about overeating.

In these cases, I took a couple deep breaths and reminded myself that it’s not about the food. It’s about enjoying each other’s company, having fun, and ENJOYING food. I chose to order whatever sounds the most satisfying (not what I think is the “healthiest”) and eat until I’m comfortably full and satisfied. No judgement whether that is 3/4’s of my meal or all of my meal + a bite of Matt’s + dessert (usually it included dessert 😆). It always helps me to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Obviously there were still times I overate but just reminded myself that I’m human and it’s a part of life!

PODCASTS

Haven’t had all that much time for podcasts because all my free time has been going towards my nutrition program but here are a couple I enjoyed this month.

  • how the binge-restrict pattern shows up in other areas of life. Nutrition Matters
  • magnesium – the master mineral that conquers stress. Bulletproof Radio
  • how do I stop emotional eating? (it’s not what you think). Nourishing Women Podcast
  • wise principles for every diet. Wise Traditions

Not a whole lot else going on other than that! Excited to be home for a few days and then I leave for Expo West on Wednesday so be sure to keep up on my stories to see all of the new healthy products coming out this year!!!

Thanks so much for reading!! I hope you all have an amazing March!
