Chocolate Oat Cake

All you need is 5 minutes and a few simple ingredients to enjoy this healthy Chocolate Oat Cake for breakfast, a snack, or even dessert!

A year or two ago, I went through a HUGE microwave mug cake phase and after making this, it’s safe to say I am hopping back on the train! Check out my Paleo Chocolate Protein Mug Cake, my Blueberry Mug Cake, and my Paleo Lemon Poppyseed Mug Cake!!

This Chocolate Oat Cake is delicous, tastes super rich, and is a healthier alternative to a typical chocolate muffin! The key ingredient in this mug cake is oats— so think of it as oatmeal in muffin form 😉

Here’s What You Need:

  • 1/2 of a banana – freeze the other half for a smoothie or slice it up and use it as a topping!
  • oats – I used organic rolled oats
  • 1 egg
  • cocoa powder – unsweetened, cacao powder works too!
  • honey – for an unrefined sweetener in this recipe! Feel free to sub maple syrup.
  • milk of choice – I used cashew milk
  • salt and baking soda

NOTE – make sure your ramekin or mug is large enough, otherwise the batter may spill over the edges while in the microwave. Keep a close eye on it and place a paper towel underneath, just in case ☺️

Topping Ideas:

I went with the classic peanut butter and chocolate chips for topping. The chocolate chips became all melty and it was AMAZE! Here are a few more ideas for topping.

  • the other 1/2 of your banana, sliced. Bonus points if caramelize them by sautéing for a couple minutes each side!
  • your preferred nut or seed butter
  • berries
  • my Homemade Chia Jam
  • chopped nuts (it would be especially delicious with walnuts IMO!)
  • granola for a crunch
  • shredded coconut
  • yogurt (plant-based or regular)
