This Viral Dunkaroo Dip is high protein, low carb, lower sugar, and made with just a few simple ingredients. It’s sweet, fluffy, and nostalgic, with that cake batter meets yogurt tang and a playful crunch from the natural sprinkles on top. It’s your favorite childhood snack, just with a better-for-you twist!
If you’ve enjoyed any of my recent better-for-you dessert recipes, you know I love re-creating treats from childhood. My favorite most recent snacks are these Healthy Nutter Butters and this High Protein Puppy Chow! They’re made with simple ingredients and make sure to have a nice balance of protein, carbs, and healthy fats to keep you satisfied and without the sugar crash. We had enough of that as kids, we don’t need that now too!
I saw this viral Dunkaroo dip on socials and wanted to try to make a higher protein, healthier version that was still lower in sugar. When I tried this, I was instantly brought back to being a kid – tearing open those bright blue Dunkaroo packs and LOVING that frosting more than anything. I can honestly say that this recipe tastes just like that 🤩 It’s safe to say, I’m obsessed and I think you’ll be too!
It has the same, thick, whipped, creamy texture while being lightly sweet and satisfying. The cake batter taste is so nostalgic and is just like cake frosting! But in this version, we have protein from the Greek yogurt and protein powder, healthy fats from the yogurt, and some carbs from the sprinkles and whatever you’re dipping into this. By focusing more on the protein for the dip itself, it helps balance the sides you might be using a little bit more!
Even better, it all comes together in one bowl and takes less than five minutes. That’s it! Just stir, top with sprinkles, and serve. It’s perfect for a solo snack, girls night, or having a fun “snack board” for your next hang out.
If you grew up loving the original Dunkaroos or just want a playful, better-for-you treat, this one’s for you!
Why You’ll Love This
- Make it your own – Swap chocolate protein for a fudge frosting flavor, use coconut yogurt for a dairy free version, add freeze dried strawberries, or swirl in peanut butter – whatever you want!
- Satisfies without the crash – With the Greek yogurt and protein powder, this dip gives you a sweet fix and keeps your blood sugar more stable. No post-snack slump!
- Perfect for any gathering – Brunch, girls night, kids parties, snack boards, book club – this dip is perfect for any setting! Nobody will know it’s secretly packed with protein.
- Dietary friendly – This is high protein, lower sugar, and can be made gluten free, grain free, dairy free, and vegan depending on the ingredients and sides you use.
What You’ll Need
- Plain Greek yogurt – If you want this to be dairy free, you can use a thick dairy free yogurt like Cocojune instead.
- Vanilla protein powder – My favorite is FlavCity (code: CALLA for 15% off) because it tastes amazing, has simple ingredients, and it’s not gritty.
- Vanilla extract
- Almond extract – This gives that “birthday cake” flavor!
- Natural pudding mix – I looked for one that was sugar free and ended up using this by Simply Desserts which you can find at Whole Foods or Amazon.
- Natural sprinkles – I like to use sprinkles made with natural dyes from fruits/vegetables/spices like these from Watsons.
For Dipping
- Fresh fruit – Strawberries, apples, banana, frozen grapes, etc.
- Cookies – I love Simple Mills “Oreos” and Chocolate Sweet Thins. They’re made with simple ingredients, no refined sugars, and are gluten free, dairy free!
- Graham crackers – I like Simple Mills Honey Sweet Thins
- Siete cookies
- Siete churro chips
- Pretzels
How To Make
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together all of the dip ingredients until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a serving dish and top with more sprinkles.
- Serve and enjoy with dipping sides of your choice! (Tip: I love having this with fresh fruit but listed other ideas above!)
