healthy, 4 ingredient, viral date bark is gluten free, vegan, and paleo. the baking sheet is lined with parchment paper and shows a layer of flattened dates with pits removed. creamy peanut butter is drizzled on top. slivered almonds are added for more texture and crunch. a rich dark brown chocolate is melted and covers all the layers. thick flaky sea salt is sprinkled on top and once frozen, the dark chocolate is hard with bumps from the texture underneath

This viral date bark is gluten-free, vegan, and made with only four main ingredients. It tastes just like a Snickers bar and is the perfect sweet treat to have prepped for the week whenever you need a little something!

I’ve seen this viral date bark all over social media and had to give it a try for myself. Guys… I’m OBSESSED! The frozen dates end up tasting like chewy caramel and with the nuts and chocolate thrown in, it’s like a candy bar. Nature’s candy bar, right??

There are so many ways you can change this recipe up – use different nut/seed butters, add coconut, use cashews, macadamia nuts, etc. instead of almonds. The possibilities are endless and I want to try them all 🤩

What You’ll Need For This Sweet Treat

  • Dates
  • Nut/seed butter – I used organic peanut butter!
  • Almonds – use any nut/seed, skip this altogether, or add something else for that extra crunch.
  • Chocolate – can be dairy-free.

How To Make

Remove the pits from the dates and place them in a single layer on a parchment paper-lined tray or plate. You’ll want to make sure this plate is the right size to fit in your freezer! If your dates seem too hard to remove the pit, try soaking them in filtered water for at least 10 minutes to help them soften.

Use the bottom of a cup to smash the dates until they’re flat. If your dates are sticking, place another sheet of parchment on top of the dates and then continue to smash with a cup.

Take your peanut butter (or nut/seed butter of choice) and drizzle it on top of the dates. You can use as little or as much as you’d like! Next, sprinkle some almonds on top of the peanut butter. If you’re nut-free, just skip this step or use something else to give this an extra crunch! Melt your chocolate in the microwave, stirring in 30-second intervals until smooth. Pour over the top of the dates and try your best to cover as much as possible – spread evenly!

Sprinkle with sea salt and place in the freezer for 30 minutes or until set. Break apart into “bark” pieces and enjoy!
