Eating Seasonally in May

farmers market in May surrounded by flowers and local produce to show the importance and ease of shopping local produce for May and eating with the seasons

One of my favorite things is incorporating more seasonal produce! This means choosing fresh foods that are in season in your area. Especially as the weather gets warmer, farmers’ markets are a weekend staple, and stocking up on fresh produce feels a lot easier (and more fun)!

Naturally, we start to transition into Spring eating as we crave lighter meals, more fresh fruits and vegetables, and more color! It’s a great way to diversify our plates, add in more nutrients, and try new recipes.

In this post, I’m breaking down the benefits of eating with the seasons and giving you a FULL LIST of what’s in season this May! Consider this your cheat sheet 😉

Why Eat With The Seasons

Choosing to eat locally sourced, seasonal produce is beneficial for SO many reasons!

It’s better for the environment because it doesn’t have to travel as far, less pesticides and chemicals are used to keep freshness. Plus, you’re supporting local farmers!

You might notice it tastes better too! Because the produce is being grown and picked in peak season, it’s slightly more nutrient dense.

It costs less when you’re buying in season because there’s an abundance of produce so the price tends to be lower.
